Travis Perkins builds its donation

Leading builders’ merchant raises over £850,000 for charities

Donal MacIntyre, Geoff Cooper and David MorrisseyTravis Perkins, a leading builders' merchant and home improvement company, has raised more than £858,000 for Mencap and children's charity Action for Children.

The company has worked in partnership with both charities since 2007. Last year alone, Travis Perkins raised more than £230,000 for the charities, bringing its total to £858,643.

The money was raised entirely by Travis Perkins staff. They took part in fundraising challenges including skydives, the three-peaks mountaineering challenge and sponsored bike rides. Staff also raised money at charity balls and at the company's annual family fun day.

Donal MacIntyre, one of Mencap's celebrity ambassadors, visited the Vauxhall branch of Travis Perkins to collect a cheque from Geoff Cooper, chief executive of the Travis Perkins Group.

"We really appreciate everything the Travis Perkins Group has done for Mencap," he said. "The time and effort put in by the staff has been outstanding. They have raised an incredible amount of money that will make a huge difference to the lives of many people with a learning disability."

Geoff Cooper said that the donation was the result of three years of dedicated fundraising from Travis Perkins employees: "I'm really proud of everyone in the group that got involved and helped to achieve such a great result."
