Information and advice

Independent advice and information

Our independent advice and information services help people with a learning disability and their families understand their rights and find out about services in their area. We specialise in making sure that our information is accurate, accessible and relevant to people with a learning disability and families throughout their lives.

We can provide information sessions on a wide range of subjects such as benefits, starting or leaving school, opportunities for employment, independent living, as well as specific disability information.

We deliver our services through a regional helpline and area based Local Advisers who offer personal support as individuals make decisions about their lives. We have Local Advisers in the northern, southern and western areas of Northern Ireland.

Advocacy

Our Local Advisers provide advocacy support to men and women with a learning disability so that they can have a real say in decisions made about their lives. Our advocacy services support people with a learning disability from the northern area being resettled from Muckamore Abbey Hospital, and people with a learning disability from the southern area being resettled from Longstone hospital.

We also offer advocacy support to people with a learning disability involved in complex proceedings, such as family or other court proceedings, or involving other learning disability issues.
