Learning and development

Mencap encourages and supports its staff to learn and develop, both as groups and teams and as individuals.

New members of staff receive a comprehensive induction package that helps them to understand the organisation and our values. New starters in direct support roles follow a clear learning route linked to NVQ Levels 2 and 3.

Career progression

We are currently rolling out a career progression programme to develop talent for the future and a leadership programme for senior managers. Management development and other relevant training is provided according to specific roles, and we also offer an accredited train the trainer course for staff wishing to develop training skills. Ongoing professional and personal development is supported by supervisions and appraisals.

Mencap encourages its staff to apply for jobs internally, and supports managers to develop their teams. Staff regularly take up secondment opportunities.

We are currently working towards achieving the Investors in People accreditation across the organisation.
